Knee jerk Reactionary Homos in Politics Work my Last Nerve...

Ok...The Advocate.com, the nation's leading LGBT news magazine and website has a story about a forthcoming Obama sponsored tour with a headline stating "Obama to Launch Faith Tour That Includes Supporter of Prop 8". The article says: "Sen. Barack Obama's campaign is reportedly launching a "Faith, Family, and Values Tour" next week that will include Catholic legal scholar Douglas Kmiec as one of the campaign's surrogates. Kmiec wrote an op-ed for the San Francisco Chronicle this summer in which he urged support for passing California's marriage ban, Proposition 8."
(Obama has stated his opposition to Prop 8). Here is the full article at TheAdvocate.com

And of course, you can hear the screech of the angry homos in all their comments. I am gay, just in case you don't know, and it is the angry reactionary knee jerk activists and commenters who really work my last nerve. Here is what I said in my initial response:

At a time where there are many issues facing this nation, and it is more important than ever that a dangerous man like John McCain be kept out of the Presidency, at a time when the power the special interests has over this administration, at a time when the Constitution must be upheld more and more (rather than calling judges who do so "activist judges"), when we need someone who thinks about issues and weighs them on the facts and based on the Constitution, now more than ever we need to let these petty issues go.

OBAMA has STATED HE IS AGAINST PROP 8 passing!

He is having an outreach to religous people, something that MUST BE DONE if he is to win this election, as Inouye stated, not ALL of his supporters agree with all of his issues, and that's the wonder of Obama. He transcends sexual orientations, religions, races, people get that this is a guy who reaches more people than others in the past have.

We must ALL work together to elect Obama if we want what's best for this country and realize we will not agree with everyone who is working for Obama's election.

Can we focus on the candidate, and what HE says, not every single one of his surrogates, as the people working fo rthe campaign are very diverse, and we are bound to find an issue with someone's views somewhere.

This will not affect our efforts to defeat Prop 8...focus!!!!

------

The irony of all this is I am being an angry reactionary knee jerk homo now!

But my point is, this election is about something so much bigger than "oh no look who is going on an Obama tour, a person who is against this or for that". The reality is that Obama's campaigners are so diverse, we are not going to be able to agree with them all. We need to focus on what Obama has said.

Will the real John McCain Please Stand Up?

Now that is my quote of the week, and it comes from, of all places, last night's intro on ABC's Nightline about the various flip flops, or "shifting" on positions that John McCain has undergone in recent months. I was just amazed to hear a mainstream media be so blatant about it. Of course, the actual segment never uses the term "flip flop" or gets as biased as that comment, but it pretty clearly explains the "astonishing transformation" McCain has undergone as candidate for President. The segment was called: "Maverick to Candidate: Evolution of the New John McCain". You can read the transcript here.

Palin's Interview Last Night on ABC

As far as not botching the interview, she passed. As far as making me feel comfortable with her in the role of President, she made me feel as nervous as she appeared in the interview. She seemed programmed and feisty, and a little unaware. But that's what advisors are for, I guess. I fear should she become President, we'd have the female version of George W. Bush. The only question is, who'd be playing the role of Dick Cheney in a Sarah Palin Presidency?

I answer this, after reading the question on the RealClearPolitics.com Blog. Other than that, I feel very strongly that supporters of Barack Obama need to start ignoring Sarah Palin. Obama is running against McCain, not Palin and that is what we need to remind people about, the damage a McCain Presidency would do to this country.

McCain Mistruths in Acceptance Speech

In case you thought McCain was stretching the truth last Thursday when he accepted the Republican nomination last week, or even worse, if your eyes were opened as you heard "new things" from him that you never knew were true, well, there was a reason for that. Apparently, his facts are not that factual. From FactCheck.org:

We checked the accuracy of McCain’s speech accepting the Republican nomination and noted the following:

  • McCain claimed that Obama’s health care plan would "force small businesses to cut jobs" and would put "a bureaucrat ... between you and your doctor." In fact, the plan exempts small businesses, and those who have insurance now could keep the coverage they have.

  • McCain attacked Obama for voting for "corporate welfare" for oil companies. In fact, the bill Obama voted for raised taxes on oil companies by $300 million over 11 years while providing $5.8 billion in subsidies for renewable energy, energy efficiency and alternative fuels.

  • McCain said oil imports send "$700 billion a year to countries that don't like us very much." But the U.S. is on track to import a total of only $536 billion worth of oil at current prices, and close to a third of that comes from Canada, Mexico and the United Kingdom.

  • He promised to increase use of "wind, tide [and] solar" energy, though his actual energy plan contains no new money for renewable energy. He has said elsewhere that renewable sources won’t produce as much as people think.

  • He called for "reducing government spending and getting rid of failed programs," but as in the past failed to cite a single program that he would eliminate or reduce.

  • He said Obama would "close" markets to trade. In fact, Obama, though he once said he wanted to "renegotiate" the North American Free Trade Agreement, now says he simply wants to try to strengthen environmental and labor provisions in it.

They go on to say a lot more in their analysis, and I think voters should check it out:
